This vegan life hack of placing tofu in a waffle iron to make crispy and protein-rich tofu waffles has now garnered millions of views and as a result, home cooks have gotten creative, showcasing their sweet and savory crispy tofu waffle treats.
What Are Tofu Pizza Waffles?
A tofu crust is surprisingly perfect for a pizza or pie crust, without all the gluten, thus making it a great keto-friendly, low-carb, vegan option. The tofu crisps up really well in a waffle maker and can hold whatever you want to top it with—in moderation, of course. Think of all the possibilities: pizza sauce, veggies, pickles, relishes and vegan meat substitutes! You can make a high-protein pizza in under 30 minutes.

Nasoya (AKA The Herbeevore) shared her recipe for making delicious Tofu Waffle Pizza with us, but feel free to get as creative as you want with your pizza toppings. The one thing you need to make sure is you have is good-quality tofu though. Look for an extra-firm tofu, so that it crisps up well when pressed in the waffle maker, and then baked in the oven. You will not need to press the extra-firm tofu to get rid of any moisture, because the water will evaporate during the cooking process.

How to Make Tofu Pizza Waffles

TikTok Tofu Pizza Waffles
Tofu Pizza Waffles:
- ½ block Nasoya Organic Extra Firm Tofu
- Cooking spray
- ¼ cup pizza sauce
- ¼ cup cheese
- ¼ cup pizza toppings of choice
- 1 tsp olive oil
- ¼ tsp red chili flakes
- 1 Tbsp fresh basil julienned
Slice block of tofu in half, lengthwise. Slice each half into 4 long strips, about ½ inch thick. These tofu slices will go into the waffle maker.
Place tofu on hot waffle maker, press down, and cook for 5 to 7 minutes until waffles start to brown.
Place waffle on a baking sheet. Spray each side of the waffle with cooking spray, and place the baking sheet under the oven broiler.
Broil the waffle for 5 minutes on each side until waffle becomes crispy.
Remove waffle from oven. Top with pizza sauce, then cheese, then toppings of choice. Place pizza waffle back under the broiler and broil for 6 to 8 minutes or until the cheese and toppings starts to brown.
Remove pizza from oven, and drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with red chili flakes, and top with fresh julienned basil, and serve fresh!
